About Our Thursday Night Marketplace

The farm fresh produce of the Mill Street Farmers Market -June - thru August 2012 -is only part of the reason so many come to the center of Historic Grass Valley to browse, shop, refresh, relax, recreate and celebrate summer with fellow citizens. The Thursday Market is a demonstration of free enterprise and new ideas blended with heritage craftmanship and art. See and meet over 100 local entrepreneurs and traders featuring items from around the world and up in the hills!

A Free Summer Concert Series July- August 2012 One near the Holbrooke Hotel and the second in front of city hall featuring 10 weeks of great entertainment. There are street performers and entertainment for everyone in the family, including crafts for kids, a climbing wall and a bounce house. Enjoy a meal at a sidewalk cafe or cruise the food court for international foods and dine with your neighbors at our Community Dining Area.

This heritage event in the heart of the Gold Country blends the town and country elements and attitudes of Nevada County into a neighborly snapshot of our community. In this day and age when most commerce is geared to the automobile and satellite malls. The Thursday Night Marketplace brings the local and regional community downtown, in the shadow of a wonderfully historic and colorful hometown. This is the real thing, this is the face of our community and it reflects the synergy of those who live here and those who visit or would love to live in our town. This is the 16th year of this celebration of Downtown Grass Valley. The market is a Certified California Farmers Market, licensed by the county, the state of California and the USDA.

Toward Zero Waste

As the Thursday Night Marketplace is a celebration of consumption, we feel this is an opportunity to do so consciously. In 2007 we were able to recycle 90% of our waste. We hope to get to Zero Waste through minimizing waste, maximizing recycling, and ensuring that the products used are made to be reused, or recycled back into nature or the marketplace. We will require compostable, or recyclable utensils, cups, plates. Organic waste can be diverted as opposed to being trucked to landfills. Organic waste is to be mulched into compost at the farm. Styrofoam & disposable utensils will not be permitted. We are committed to preventing and diverting waste and hope you will join in our effort. Zero waste events help reduce our dependence on natural resources such as timber, petroleum, and land. We know our effort will help lessen the burden of to the community for an evening of fun!
